I'm sorry, but I'm a fair novice at this kind of stuff, and I'm not quite understanding exactly how to use the script. I tried putting it into Terminal but it gave me a huge string of things in my Library folder and in my Library/Preferences folder. What exactly am I supposed to do?

I also have a question relating directly to Cave Story - do you know how I can active save states on the Mac version of Doukutsu? The PC version says to find the file labeled Profile.dat in the exe file, but obviously that isn't there.

yes, thanks for pointing that out, I haven't tested the script thoroughly, it seems. I've uploaded the version which should behave in a right way.

I'm running OS 10.4.11 and Terminal 1.5.1.

The script has a glitch. After making a "Saves" folder, empty of any saves, I ran the script and saved my current game. It saved to slot 2, skipping slot 1.

When attempting to save another game, instead of writing to slot 3 or 1, it overwrote slot 2. I lost my save in this way. :(

My workaround involves renaming 2.sav to 1.sav. The script then saves new files to 2, 3, etc.
